watching shutter island was fun. its not the best movie i have seen but for sure it is remarkable for its haunting score. i have noticed so many tracks beeing so familiar and discovered that i use to listen to most of the composers. we also found that the story has lots of weak points but the cuts, camera and montage were very well done. all in all a good entertaining scorsese flick which proves how difficult it can be to judge the obvious things. herewith some movietitles from youtube:

adolar - the 2nd dimension

this is my all time favourite cartoon. adolars phantastische abenteuer (the mézga family in english) was made in hungary between 1968 and 1978.
in the nighttimes adolar escapes from his crazy parents into space with a blownup spacecraft accompanied by his talkactive dog. in the space he discovers different planets and adventures. every planet has a special obscure theme.

in this episode he lands on a planet that looks like a vynil. soon adolar discovers that he arrived on a 2nd dimension planet with weird folks reigned by a cruel monarch. the nations ruler prohobited by law the pronunciation of the vokals a and o.
an elder thought his son the a and the o and explains that someone who can not say aaaa or ooo is not able to be amazed. and someone who is not able to be amazed will never achieve the realization of things.
adolar tries to help the revolutionist but finds himself beeing unable to do anything out from the 3rd dimension. only his flashlight could help to interact in the 2d world. the folks believe the light would come from a ghost and escape...
this series influenced my childhood heavily.

i saw this and had to order it.

my mom wore a ring until her kids grew up and it was time to start a new life in a new place. so she gave it to my sister. it was made by a friend back then and looks kind of similar to this one. i like the roughness about it. check out the etsy shop from midwest alchemy. it has some other beautiful and affordable pieces for sale.

this is an impressive demonstration of piano music, both by skrjabin (1872-1915) and by horowitz (1903–1989).
after watching the video i want to run into the concert hall and listen to skrjabin for at least 4 hours. oh no unfortunately there is always beethoven, schumann, schubert and dvorak played...very difficult...

rembetiko seems to be something like greek folk-blues-chant. in the past the groups played in taverns, pubs, hashish places and prisons.
i wish the folks in the underground would play this kind of music too.

the artist from the video above is the very well known rembetiko musician markos vamvakaris or mάρκος bαμβακάρης (1905-1972).

mauricio kagel - tactil

"the voice of god does not need any human playback."

this statement was done by maurico kagel during an interview for bomb magazine (summer, 2004) by anthony coleman. they were talking about kagel beeing jewish.
the interview comes as a rather layed back talk between coleman and kagel and offers a nice insight on various aspects of kagels work and life. the composer also talks about his love for different sources like folk instruments and melodys. tactil is a piece that evokes memorys. personally i dont even have the described gist of folk interpretation while listening to tactil but it reminds me strongly on my childhood. back then there is not much memory left, but as far as i remember i loved to make those amazing sounds with my plastic ruler!
every action and every sound around was blend into a weird kind of accompaniment to plastic rulers sound. the whole upshifting modulation in tactil reminds me a lot on the last boring class before the weekend. that piece just fits perfectly on my state of mind beeing a lil school kid playing with a plastic ruler and meditating on weekend adventures. sometimes its just so good to feel playful.
tactil (total lenght: 19:30) is a piece found on exotica.
it is composed and recorded for guitar, harmonica and fortepiano (first released in 1974).

niklas luhmann is a great thinker with very valuable contributions for mediascience. due to the crazy amount of research and publication work he has done in his lifetime it might be interesting to have a closer look at his desktop. the so called "zettelkasten" (notebox) is a treasure chest among his ideas. he wrote down whatever he found interesting, gave it a number related to its topic and put it into the zettelkasten. all the notes are structured in a pretty strict order as he points out in the interview. it seems to be a pretty modern approach on managing papers and footnotes in a cluster like system. today we would call that hypertext.

the zettelkasten is in private property by his family and luhmann himself said once that people might publish another whole book after his death based on his toughts in the box.
